Mistake 3: Developing Learned Helplessness
I was trying these things out, and they wasn’t working as well as they should. And when you trial these things out and they don’t work, you get more and more discouraged, loose confidence and develop a learned helpnessess.
You are probably wandering, ‘What is learned helpnessness?‘
It’s a condition that was discovered by Dr Seligman. It’s basically when you think you are helpness in most sitautions, feel utterly hopeless, and feel that you are unable to escape.
You begin to loose interest in even trying. It’s the complete opposite to being super-motivated. And yes, it causes depression!
It was based on a test involving dogs, a chain, and mild electric shocks!!!
Now, don’t get me wrong, unless you are the most motivated, gung-ho person in the world, you will most likely have A FORM of learned helplessness. It’s essentilly like a spectrum.
And like any spectrum, there are people who have a mild version of it at one end. And at the other end, there are some people who have a very hard time leaving their bed!
So after trying out new technologies, and getting some benefit, I realized I had to act fast, as speed was the issue here, and that this stuff wasn’t working quick enough for me. I was still suffering from bouts of depression, and there was also learned helpnessess to deal with.
My life was still just dragging on, however I knew I was heading in the right direction, I was coming across diferent technologies, but it wasn’t what I was looking for.
What I was looking for was a way to combine both your consious and your subconscious mind, to get MAXIMUM RESULTS, in MINIMUM time (believe it or not, your subconscious mind LOVES SPEED, as it likes to be very efficient).
Then something happend, I came across a technlogy that would change my world view…
I came across Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the power of your subconscious.

The techniques are not long (for example, you can even create an emotional state where you can touch a small mole on your hand, and you feel very confident), and you will gain a better understanding on how the subconscious mind works.
Let me give you a quick demostration on the power of nlp (and the power of your subconscious mind…careful, this will leave you, most likely, SPEECHLESS…you’ve been warned;-)
This exercise will take literally no more than 3 minutes of your time. That’s right, about 180 seconds (roughy;-)
1- Go somewhere where you can sit down and not be disturbed, and take a few deep breaths. This is just to quieten your mind.
2- Then think of a time when you felt super excited. Maybe it was your favourite team winning, maybe it was when that girl or guy said hello, maybe it was choosing a new car.
(Really try to get into the feeling, hear what you heard, see what you saw, really build up the excitement.)
Don’t worry if there is too much to do, the main idea is to get an image and the strong feeling.
3. After about about a minute, press any knuckle on your hand. Hold it there for about 10 seconds.
4. Release, then open your eyes. Clear your mind.
Wait for a few seconds (or however long it takes for you to emotionally calm down).
5. Now, let the magic happen…touch that same knuckle again, in that same spot as before.
Voila. Bet you feel very excited. (If you do this exercise properly, that is)
When I did this exercise, my mind was BLOWN and I was DESPERATE to learn more. I had discovered the power of your subconscious mind. Thank you, NLP;-)
So I went on a quest, I watched videos, listened to audiobooks, and bought some online courses. And I enjoyed them, and got great benefits of them. I got more excitement back in my life, and even helped myself get more peace as well as more focus at work.
One of the things about NLP is that it is very quick (in my opinion).
That is because NLP is one of the few technologies out there which does the one thing that few other technologes do: It combines both the subconscious and the conscious. Many technologies do one or the other, they don’t do both. NLP does!
It helps utilise the speed aspect of the subconscous. But there was only one slight snag: there was just so much out there.

For me, (I can only go by my own experience), it works very well.
I feel less angry, more in control, more empowered.
I’ve achieved very interesting results in the last few months doing these techniques, Some of them have blown my mind, some of them have just been very useful, albeit subtle differences.
A quick recap:
- A lot less angry than before, and a lot less stressed (although this sometimes fluctuates, truth be told…)
- More creative than before, able to get more things done!
- Work rate has gone up slightly, although still early days;-)
- More disciplined at home, espcecially gymwork and cardio!
- Increased clarity of mind

Length of time, to be honest with you.
There’s not much waffle, however I felt like some of the videos and some of the content could have been reduced slightly.
Having said that, it is only a slight imperfection. To be honest with you, 2-3 hours of video to change the rest of your life? That is a fantastic, small investment.
You are learning a lot of stuff here, and this stuff is going to help your life in so many different departments, from having more fun to being more empowered, to affecting your relationships.
That is the thing about NLP, it’s about being more empowered. Creating win-win situations. Changing your own life, which can help others.
